WELCA
The purpose of the Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America:
As a community of women…… Created in the image of God, Called to discipleship in Jesus Christ, and Empowered by the Holy Spirit
We commit ourselves…… To grow in faith, Affirm our gifts, Support one another in our callings, Engage in ministry and action, and Promote healing and wholeness In the church, In society, and In the world.
The St John’s WELCA group meets once a month in the homes of the members. It’s open to all interested women. We study and share on a variety of topics and have Bible study that is meaningful to women. We find correlations to issues and answers in our personal lives. Our WELCA is a wonderful group of fun-loving women.
Several special traditions are kept. We close each meeting by forming a circle by joining hands and saying the mizpah benediction (Genesis 31:49): “May the Lord watch between me and thee until we meet again. Amen.” Everyone always looks forward to our annual picnic. WELCA also takes responsibility for many special events in our church. One high point each year is the Maundy Thursday Paschal dinner and Eucharistic, which we organize.
What the St John’s women say about WELCA
“We enjoy each others company and have fun too!” Gloria Deck
“I go away from each meeting very uplifted and fulfilled.” Joanne Corrigan
“What better place to get to know your sisters in Christ?!” Carolyn Trupp
St. John’s WELCA group invites you to come join us. If you need a ride, we’ll pick you up. We treasure our friendship. You’ll find sisters and good friends here, too.
